DIY: Men's Spring into Summer Vision Board

m- Every season Courtney and I try to throw together a fashion-inspired vision board for fun.
True believers in the Law of Attraction, we think there is strong power in visualizing what you desire. Today I made a Spring into Summer vision board and I love it aleady. Living in Bushwick and working in Chelsea, has really kept me excited in switching up my street style every day.
This is alwaysssss a fun DIY. Get stimulated.Get inspired. :)
Change in season, change in reason.
This project is nothing far from the collages you've made your whole life.
This just has a little more purpose.
The Barnes and Nobel in Union Square is usually my retreat when Spring rain suddenly happens. I stop on the third floor to grab a few magazines, then head upstairs to sit and flip through. You can stay as long as you want. It's quite nice. Don't tell anybody.
Today I decided to buy two magazines- I'm usually too broke to bring them home. #nyclife

1. British GQ Style: Spring-Summer 2014
-When given the option, I always, always choose the UK edition over any other. The Brits are always ahead of the game. Plus the white-boy style is perfect for me. :)

2. Fantastic Man: Spring 2014
-Fantastic Man is my favorite men's fashion magazine at the moment. The layout is clean and classic. Straight out of Holland, the fashion is European in cut and classic in color-pallete. Plus 90's Euro(trash) is super on trend right now. Super on point.
Find something sturdy to paste your pics on. I could only find a box.
The shape turned out cool though. I love crafts whew.
Leo! Babe! Showing us what's good.
Hawaiian print is the new plaid....sure. We'll take it. I've always thought vintage Hawaiian shirts are sexy when done right. Check out our blogpost from last Summer with Lori Wyatt in Charleston. The Hawaiian shirts that everyone is coveting are super deep and rich in color. I love. Will definitely have some more of these in my close soon. Thanks Leo.
White.
All white everything. This is what I need after a winter in a warehouse with no windows in
New York. White. Sun.
All white outfits are pristine and make you look freaking great.
It's like a white box of natural of light is following you around all day to make you glow.
And it's great for warm days to come.

My Spring and Summer summarized: High waisted trousers. Short shorts. Vintage everything. Lightwash denim. White.
and mushrooms.
Also going to try out this no-shirt, just bandana thing. Working on my fitness but I think I can make it work come summer festival time.
I've got my plan down and Im excited about it. Now I'm going to start finding these things on the street. So fun to inVISION. If you think it, if you see it, it will be. Yessssssss warm weather.

DIY: Mexican Villa Style.

c- I (almost) can't believe I forgot about these pictures from my fantasy vacation to Mexico with my favorite second family. This trip was truly a dream come true- and spending time with this beauty made it all the better. Samantha is my little rock. I only say little because she is younger, but has the maturity level well beyond her years. She is also a running, Pilates, and workout guru and her amazing body definitely showcases that.

I cut these shorts from classic Levi's I found at goodwill and they fit Sami perfectly. We paired it with a lace top that originally had awful frill on the bottom I just cut off- making this into an adorable lace crop top fit for a tropical vacation. I am not a fan of any sort of eye make up when on a trip to the beach, so I tend to carry my bag of lipsticks as my go-to staple. Sami is wearing my favorite fuchsia to compliment her look (and match this funkin fabulous room we resided in for the week).

Michael and I were at another goodwill when we spotted this huge hawaiian shirt with a fantastic pattern of a surfer atop this lime green and ocean theme. We needed it...and somehow I was lucky enough to snag it from him ;)
I cut the huge sleeves off making this an ideal bathing suit cover up. Add a belt and some red lips and va-va-v00m it serves as the perfect "hang out" outfit.

What I was saying before, lip colors are the perfect way to add a touch of zest to a tropical outfit without the worry of eye makeup melting off your face in the heat. Red lips are such a saucy way of staying fabulous by the pool or beach. I paired this with my starfish earrings I found while thrifting that I love oh so much. So realistically, this beach coverup outfit was under $5.

And not to forget the breathtaking view Casa Yvonneka offered us during our stay in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Honestly unbelievable, and I am so grateful the Marenyi family allowed me to experience this with them.

 *Sigh*

Now I'm going to spend the rest of my evening day dreaming and wishing I was back in Mexico.
Until next time, ta-ta!

DIY Spring Fashion Vision Board: Men's Edition

Why not like...do it yourself?

My newest project: DIY Spring Vision Board.

m- A couple of months ago, Courtney had the glorious idea to make a DIY fall-fashion vision board. I was super envious. Boy did she do it herself. Courtney cut some some kick-ass outfits out of Vogue's fall edition, threw them up on a board, and then had a PERFECT visual for the fashion days to come.
I had to get on board.
Get it?

So it is really quite simple actually.

Lets do a step by step:
1. Buy some snazzy spring magazines with hot ladies on the front.
2. Peruse these mags. Get inspired.
3. Cut out the most inspiring hot ladies in the clothes you are most jealous.
4. Glue them on a board.
5. Donezo.

As you can see, I tried to give this DIY Board a little jazz. Naturally, you can hodge-podge any kind of canvas with fashion clips, but I found this cardboard piece in the recycling that fit perfectly for the job. I spray-painted the cardboard piece black to showcase my prospects best.

I decided to divide up my vision board into sections. This part of the DIY board was all about a theme of graphic prints in black and white. This shirt combination 'bout made me wanna die. The unique, large blocking on the front is paired perfectly with tiny black and white plaid. Id wear this in a second.

The majority of my inspiration for the spring came from a male fashion magazine called
This magazine is visually pleasing and completely FULL of European fashion...it just gets my blood pumping. The low crotch, found in pants across the globe, (except for the States), has been a favorite of mine since I bought my first pair of low crotchers in Barcelona. I havent stopped craving the look. Something I also now crave, are these kick-ass shoes above. Excuse me?
This style is NEW and I like it. I would wear the white sandals (right) all day. And the polka dots...

This part of the board also donned the euro pant, but the colors of this section were more earthy and military. Since I let my hair grow out a little more, I have recently tried to channel my German roots in my look.

Combine my blonde, German hair, with some military inspired pieces, and Im practically Hitler Youth. A local designer from The Fantastic Man said that Fighter pilots,
post WW2 has been his recent inspiration.
 I second this notion.

DIY- COLOR. Color, color, color. It's spring y'all. Time for color. Purple, orange, and blue is my new color combination that I cant get enough of. I mean really, I cant get enough of ANY color. Throw it on. Switch it up. Mix and match. I think that our options for color are endless and we need to take more advantage of this. Colorful metallic is all the rage on the runway these days and I am super excited to see how this will be translated to the street.

I've started with these metallic, gold Doc Martens, my beautiful friend Madeline got me in Brooklyn last week. Now that this picture is always on my mind, I'm already making this board a reality. Quality.

This same local designer was asked: How would you define the current state of menswear? Where is it headed and where is it coming from?

His response:
I feel some traditional taste and eccentricity are in parallel, and sometimes they mix. That's something I feel both from the designers and the street.

I couldn't agree more.

So, DO IT YOURSELF! Honestly, I had a great time with this little craft. It is such a simple way to visualize the next couple of months in your world of fashion. It is much easier to become inspired by today's dress when you have this visual next to your closet. DIY.

Happy First Day of Spring!

Edge of Urge: Local Street Style

m- Edge of Urge. Over the past four years, I’ve been fortunate enough to watch how this local gem has transformed from a cozy and hip boutique only known by locals, to something accrediting national recognition- all while keeping it’s small town character exclusive to eccentric
Wilmington, North Carolina.

I have always loved treating myself to stops at edge. The atmosphere is fantastic. Its so...now. There really are some fantastic pieces that you cant get a hold of anywhere closer than DC or Atlanta, so you know you’re going to always find something unique.

My purchases of the day: tanks.
Keeping the 90's theme rolling, I found this awesome tank that I really cant get enough of. This heavy cotton tank is stripped with an awesome 90's color theme of teal, gray, brown and blue and is cut just the way you never knew you wanted it. Our favorite part of the shirt is the patch of denim visible only when unbuttoned. I'm always down for surprises!

DIY: Cut up some old Levis that you haven’t worn in years, roll them up, and you’ve got a new pair of denim shorts. Pair them with a tank like this and some vintage high-top sneaks and you are good to go.

This cool necklace from Forever 21 keep in the 90's color palette. These faux ivory fangs look like they’ve been dipped in a 90's roller rink birthday room.
Bailey’s sunglasses are also a new purchase from Edge of Urge for just twelve bucks! Cat-eye sunglasses are key.

We love edge. Thank you edge for giving us hope for fashion in the south. With this store, there is no doubt that we are on our way.

Because we're obsessed.
